The firm has raised over $1.8 billion since its inception in 2010.
Stabilis' investments are focused on direct lending primarily secured by commercial real estate. Stabilis utilizes a tech-enabled platform to source widely and sift through its significant deal flow to invest in transactions with the most compelling risk/reward dynamics. The team's decades of experience in analyzing, underwriting, and structuring allow it to effectively monitor and manage loans in Stabilis' portfolio. Our focus is on maximizing risk-adjusted returns for all investors while seeking to mitigate downside risk.
Stabilis' Managing Principal, Salman Khan, has a proven track record of more than 30 years of successful investing experience, having held various leadership positions at Goldman Sachs and Silver Point Capital prior to starting Stabilis. The Firm's investor base includes financial institutions, family offices, high net worth individuals, endowments, pension plans and retirement funds.

Salman Khan
Salman Khan is the Founder and Managing Principal of Stabilis Capital Management. Mr. Khan founded Stabilis in 2010 after spending 12 years at Goldman Sachs and 6 years at Silver Point. At Goldman, Mr. Khan was the Group Head and ran the Latin American loan acquisition business from 1997-2001. He also built and ran the US Small and Middle Market Loan Acquisition business which he later ported to Silver Point in 2004. Salman has invested over $6 Billion during his career. At Silver Point, Mr. Khan created and ran a $600 million discretionary portfolio focused on Middle Market Loan Acquisition for 6 years. In 2010, Mr. Khan established Stabilis and has continued the loan acquisition strategy and built a bridge lending strategy as a complementary business. Mr. Khan has a BS in Electrical Engineering from Columbia University and an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
Joseph Podesta
Mr. Podesta is Stabilis' COO and focused on Underwriting and Asset Management. Mr. Podesta joined Stabilis over 6 years ago. Previously, Mr. Podesta worked as Lead Analyst at Tannor Capital Management, where he specialized in trade and insolvency claims. Mr. Podesta received an MBA in Finance from Rutgers University and a B.S. in Economics from George Washington University. In addition, Mr. Podesta is a CFA Charterholder.
Juan Robayo
Mr. Robayo is Head of Sourcing at Stabilis. Mr. Robayo joined Stabilis in 2014 and has over 22 years of experience in the financial services sector. Previously, Mr. Robayo was Director of the Fixed Income Group at Barclays/Lehman for 7 years. While at Lehman, he acquired and managed distressed NPL portfolios in Argentina, Brazil and Colombia. Prior to Barclays/Lehman, he worked at Goldman Sachs in the Latin American distressed loan acquisition business and at Silver Point Capital in the US middle market loan acquisition business. Mr. Robayo has a Master’s degree in Public Policy from Columbia University. Mr. Khan and Mr. Robayo worked together at Goldman Sachs and Silver Point Capital.
Alex Cepero
Mr. Cepero is the Senior Controller at Stabilis Capital Management. Mr. Cepero has 10+ years of Fund Accounting experience as well as having both a public and private accounting background. Prior to joining Stabilis, Mr. Cepero spent 10 years at Fortress Investment Group as a member of the Drawbridge Special Opportunities Fund and Fortress Value Recovery Fund groups. Mr. Cepero graduated from SUNY Albany with a B.S. in Accountancy. Mr. Cepero is Uniform CPA candidate, in New York State, awaiting licensure after having successfully passed all four parts of the Uniform CPA exam.
Dale Cooney
Mr. Cooney is a Senior Advisor to Stabilis focused on asset management. Prior to joining Stabilis, Mr. Cooney spent 6 years at Fortress Investment Group, and 10 years at Silver Point Capital LP. He has held senior positions at Goldman Sachs, and other financial services firms over his 30+ year career in underwriting, managing and resolving real estate financing transactions. Mr. Cooney graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a B.S. in Accountancy. Mr. Khan and Mr. Cooney worked together at both Goldman Sachs and Silver Point Capital.
Scott Esterbrook
Mr. Esterbrook is the External General Counsel at Stabilis focused on all legal matters for Stabilis and assists on compliance matters. He has been practicing law for over twenty years, focusing on the financial services sector. In his work with private investment funds and dispute settlements, he endeavors to identify, protect and enforce rights, remedies and claims, emphasizing transactional matters for distressed debt situations. He graduated magna cum laude from Temple University Beasley School of Law, where he served as executive editor of the Temple Law Review.
Maya Bindra
Maya Bindra is an Investment Analyst at Stabilis assisting with underwriting and asset management. Ms. Bindra graduated with a B.A. in International Relations and Economics from the University of Pennsylvania.

Alexandros Michaelides is an Investment Analyst at Stabilis assisting with underwriting, asset management, and sourcing. Mr. Michaelides graduated with a B.A. in Economics from Yale University.
Brett Weiner
Brett Weiner is an Investment Analyst at Stabilis assisting with Underwriting, Asset Management, and Sourcing. Prior to joining Stabilis in 2024, Mr. Weiner completed three 6-month co-op internships with Blackstone, Ardian, and most recently, StepStone's Real Estate team. Mr. Weiner graduated with a B.S.B.A. from Northeastern University, with concentrations in Finance and Accounting.
