Salman Khan
Mr. Khan is the Founder and CEO of Stabilis Capital Management, which he started in 2010. Under his leadership, Stabilis has invested over $1.9bn across 371 transactions across multiple asset classes, investment strategies, and business cycles. In 2020, Stabilis launched a pure bridge lending strategy with significant institutional investment and has since invested over $709m in bridge loans collateralized by commercial real estate. The Firm pivoted to a hybrid bridge loan and acquisition strategy in 2017 and has originated over $970m in bridge loans alone since 2017.
Prior to forming Stabilis, Mr. Khan spent 12 years at Goldman Sachs—with the last 7 years as group head—and 6 years at Silver Point Capital. Mr. Khan is an electrical engineer by training, an educational background that led to his expertise in probability theory. Mr. Khan was given a leadership role in 1997, running the Latin American distressed loan acquisition business across consumer, residential, and commercial real estate (“CRE”) loans. On his return to the US market in 2001, he led the middle-market CRE loan acquisition business. He focused on these loans—despite their need for in depth, case by case analyses—due to their higher sustained spreads. He founded and ran the same business while at Silver Point.
At Stabilis, Mr. Khan has combined his probability theory approach with his experience in investing in CRE loans. Stabilis utilizes a technology-enabled, proprietary sourcing and sifting process that allows the team to focus only on deals that fit its stringent underwriting process. In Mr.Khan’s opinion, this process greatly streamlines the idiosyncratic, case-by-case analysis CRE loans often require. This platform – and the team assembled to work on it – is the culmination of a 30 + career in finance.
